Gamma Nu Finds Success in Battle of the Bands Philanthropy

Rochester, N.Y.
Gamma Nu chapter at RIT recently raised nearly $1,000 for the Hole in the Wall Camps after hosting a new philanthropy event, Breezeway Battle of the Bands. The event was comprised of three acts that competed for an opportunity to perform at Lovin’ Cup, a local restaurant that showcases live music.
Philanthropy Chair Matt Fraher, RIT ’07, was happy with the event’s turnout and fundraising and credited his brothers for making it a success.
“All of our members within the chapter were committed to making the battle of the bands successful,” he said. “Everyone contributed in their own way, whether it was coming to a planning meeting, visiting local businesses for donations or table-sitting in the Student Alumni Union the days leading up to the event, advertising and soliciting donations.”
The chapter plans to host the event again next year and hopes to expand it further.
“We want to approach more businesses in the area and hope to get more bands to participate,” Fraher said. “We’d like to start advertising the band sign up weeks in advance and get as many bands as possible. Lovin' Cup has committed the same Grand Prize and that is a valuable partnership in making this event even bigger going forward.”
