Leadership Academy

Leadership Academy is the Fraternity's premier individualized leadership development event, held biennially at Miami University in Oxford, Ohio.

The curriculum guides students to think critically about important issues facing individuals, chapters and the Fraternity, while preparing them to be ethical leaders on their campus and in their chosen field. Leadership Academy challenges men to translate the creed and Ritual of Phi Kappa Tau into positive action.

Award Winners

Leadership Academy Sponsorships

The Phi Kappa Tau Foundation provides $400 sponsorships to cover the educational components of the student experience. Alumni donors and friends of Phi Tau make tax-deductible contributions to cover the cost of attending Leadership Academy. Gifts may be restricted for a particular chapter or unrestricted for those with the greatest need.

Leadership Academy Pool

During the Centennial Convention, chapter delegates approved the creation of a Leadership Academy Pool, which is billed at a rate of $300 per semester to each chapter. The funds are set aside specifically for each chapter to use for attending the biennial Leadership Academy. The balance for each chapter that is current with their chapter billing is $1,200.

  • A chapter’s LA Pool is primarily used to cover registration costs not covered by sponsorships.
  • After registration costs are covered, if the chapter has an outstanding chapter balance, the Pool will be applied to that balance.
  • Any remaining LA Pool money will be transferred to the chapter’s Chapter Educational Grant (CEG) Fund.
  • A chapter’s CEG Funds can be used for travel expenses if (1) the chapter has sponsorships to cover each attendee’s $400 registration cost AND (2) the chapter does not have an outstanding chapter balance.
  • In order to be eligible for a sponsorship and/or to be eligible for travel reimbursement, a student must attend all Leadership Academy sessions (Wed-Sun) and must comply with the Leadership Academy Agreement to Expectations, including the understanding to remain substance-free for the entire week of Leadership Academy.
  • The BOG Chair may request travel reimbursement for a student from the chapter CEG by sending receipts for travel expenses to the Executive Offices, Attn: Angie Van Winkle, by Aug. 31, 2009.
